  1. I didn’t vote for them either.

[Ahem. Using one thread to spam adverts to responses to another thread is hijacking bandwidth and is strongly disapproved of. If people want to read that thread, they will -W]

  2. This is *completely* off-topic, but I was browsing SkepticalScience and ran across this comment which in turn led me to the webpage for David MacKay’s book “Sustainable Energy without the Hot Air”, where while browsing on page 167 I happened to notice a photograph of a nuclear power plant at Sizewell, the caption of which says “Photo by William Connolley.”

Egads, you’re everywhere! Even in my aimless non-wikipedia, non-Stoat web browsing….

[That is interesting: I’d forgotten that. And he even asked my permission -W]

  3. The Union of Concerned Scientists brings us words from some of the more, er, noteworthy among newly elected US Representatives:

“With the possible exception of Tiger Woods, nothing has had a worse year than global warming. We have discovered that a good portion of the science used to justify “climate change” was a hoax perpetrated by leftist ideologues with an
    agenda.”
-Todd Young, new congressperson from Indiana

“I absolutely do not believe that the science of man-caused climate change is proven. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I think it’s far more likely that it’s just sunspot activity or something just in the geologic eons of time where we have changes in the climate.”
-Ron Johnson, new senator from Wisconsin

“I think we ought to take a look at whatever the group is that measures all this, the IPCC, they don’t even believe the crap.”
-Steve Pearce, new congressperson from New Mexico

“It’s a bigger issue, we need to watch ’em. Not only because it may or may not be true, but they’re making up their facts to fit their conclusions. They’ve already caught ’em doing this.”
-Rand Paul, new senator from Kentucky

“There isn’t any real science to say we are altering the climate path of the earth.”
-Roy Blunt, new senator from Missouri

  4. Yeah, William, I think Hank has a point here. Personally, I’d be happy to trade you the fools who will soon be governing us in exchange for the fools who are governing you. I’d even be willing to throw in the state of Texas to sweeten the deal.

  5. Some still have hope:
    http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=bluefin-tuna-regulators-under-

“The … body responsible for managing tuna fishing, gathers in Paris on 17 November to … set future catch quotas.

But the meeting will be overshadowed by a report, released this week, which documents a decade of illegal fishing of eastern Atlantic bluefin tuna stocks, leading to the fishery’s near-collapse and a black market worth around US$4 billion…..”

What’s the difference between a free market and a black market? No regulation, no recordkeeping, no taxation …
